Darts Australia (DA) is pleased to announce that dates for the 2022 Australian Open and 2022 Australian Championships have now been confirmed and released.
Both of the events will be held in Moama and will take place in August in 2022 – a welcome return after some covid-forced cancellations in the past couple of years.
The Australian Open will take place from August 3-6, while the Australian Championships will follow shortly after from August 7-13.
The inaugural Australian Open event was held in Moama in 2019, and the 2020 and 2021 events were unfortunately lost to us in the pandemic – making the 2022 date announcement an exciting one.
Similarly, despite best efforts made by DA over the past couple of years to get the Australian Championship up and running in some capacity, it was simply not to be.
Speaking about the date reveal, acting DA President Terry Taylor said it was wonderful for the Australian Darts community to have another Aussie Champs to looks forward to.
“No doubt the past couple of years have been incredibly tough on everyone in the world of darts – both in terms of individual and personal circumstance, together with the affect the pandemic has had on darts competition,” he said.
“But it is wonderful to see how things have picked up recently and how we can once again look forward to, what we hope will be a jam packed 2022 calendar of events.
“With that being the case, we are really excited to announce the dates for these two events, and are working hard to make sure they will be wonderful events to be part of.
“While the competition itself will be as great as always, we are just looking forward to having as many people as possible from the community across the country back together again.”
Following on from a recent DA Director’s Meeting, and in the interest of keeping all of those people involved in the events as safe as possible, all attendees at the championship will need to be and show evidence of, double vaccination against Covid 19.
It is felt that this will be in line with the mandates in place by state governments and in the best interest of all involved, and will apply to ALL attendees aged 12 years of age and over.
More information about these events will be released over the coming months, so stay tuned to the Darts Australia website and social media channels for updates.
