Comito & Mitchell victorious at Bunbury Classic

Joe Comito (men’s singles champion) and Kym Mitchell (ladies’ singles champion) were the victors of the inaugural Bunbury Classic over the weekend.

Held at the Bunbury South West Italian Club, the three-day event began on Friday with the men’s and ladies’ doubles matches underway on Friday and finishing on Saturday. The WDF Bunbury Junior Classic took place on Saturday, with the Singles and B-Grade Singles rounding off the event on Sunday.

The Bunbury Lord Mayor, Jaysen Miguel opened the tournament with Alifaye Gidgup conducting the Welcome to Country.

The tournament had 109 players compete in the singles competition and 102 players compete in the doubles competition. Twenty-four of these players were under 18’s.

In the men’s singles, Joe Comito (28.214)  defeated his opponent Kimberly Lewis (26.62) to win the title.

Elsewhere in the ladies’ singles competition, Kym Mitchell (22.176) from South Australia was too good against Natalie Carter (19.74), and claimed another trophy, adding to her North Queensland Title last month.

The duo of Joe Comito & Brenton Lloyd claimed the men’s doubles crown after defeating Kim Lewis & Gary Stevens.

Kayleigh Pickett & Jucinta Dann outplayed Natalie Carter & Ursula Bennell to secure the ladies’ doubles title.

In the junior events, Ricky Rickett Jnr won over Josh Elliot to win the Boys Youth Classic, and Ruby Clarke  defeated Suzette Parker to win the Girls Youth title.

We would also like to mention that Australian Representatives Peter Machin & Kym Mitchell travelled from South Australia to compete along with Trent Mitchell. Mathew Tabb and his son Zac Tabb (U18) both travelled from Victoria to compete. We anticipate in the future this event will attract further interstate players.
